Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is complex and is made up of stages:

• Consultation and treatment plan – the orthodontist inspects and analyses the malocclusion. They perform an intra- and extraoral examination, and analyze a panoramic and a cephalometric x-ray. During the consultation impressions are made for diagnostic models.
• Treatment – depending on the malocclusion diagnosed and the Patient’s preference an appropriate orthodontic brace is used. During the treatment regular check-ups are required. The treatment takes usually about two years.
• Retention treatment – after the removal of braces a retention brace is attached to the inner surface of the teeth. Its purpose is to retain the achieved results.
• Prophylaxis and hygiene – throughout the entire treatment the Patient should pay extra attention to the hygiene. The Patients are always informed about specialized toothbrushes and dental flosses necessary for maintaining proper oral hygiene.

There are two types of braces:

• Detachable
• Permanent.

DETACHABLE BRACE

This kind of braces helps with widening dental arches, helps with proper jaw growth and corrects malocclusions in children. Thanks to this brace future permanent brace treatment can be avoided. This kind of brace can be put on and taken off by the Patient themselves. It should be worn for a certain amount of time each day, in accordance with the dentist’s recommendation. It is made individually so that it fits the shape of the teeth.

PERMANENT BRACE

Permanent brace – they can be used at any age, as long as all of the adult teeth are already present. A brace is mounted onto the teeth, and the Patient is unable to remove or regulate it by themselves. It is made up of parts such as brackets, archwires, tie wire and bands.

Permanent braces we offer:

• Metal brace – the most popular type of brace. Its advantages are that it is comfortable for the Patient during the treatment and that it is cheaper than other alternatives. The brackets can be made using different melchiors, including an anti-allergenic nickel-free melchior.
• Ceramic brace – ceramic brackets provide a very clean, aesthetic look. Treatment is identical to the metal brace.
• Crystal brace – brackets are made of crystals, which makes the brace nearly invisible. There is no need to put elastic ties on, which increases the Patient’s comfort.
• Self-ligating metal brace – this brace doesn’t use bands, the archwire is held by a special “flap” in the bracket. The treatment using this model is shorter compared to a regular brace.
• Self-ligating aesthetic brace – this brace’s color is very similar to the natural teeth color or is colorless. It is nearly invisible, and is usually chosen by Patients who want to minimize the visibility of the brace. The treatment using this model is shorter compared to a regular brace.
